Youth Board Member Application Form
Sierra Service Project

PO Box 13009
Sacramento CA 95813

The Sierra Service Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who have the legal decision making authority for the organization. The Board consists of eighteen individuals and usually includes three high school youth. These youth are elected to the board to serve one-year terms starting in October of each year.

SSP is currently inviting high school students to apply for a position on the board. Sophomores, juniors and seniors may apply, although we have found that juniors are typically elected. (Juniors tend to have a little more time to serve than seniors and a bit more leadership experience that sophomores.) If elected, you will be expected to attend all board meetings, which occur on weekends four times during the year. SSP will pay for the cost of you travelling to these meetings. In addition, you will be assigned to work on a committee which will meet by phone between face-to-face board meetings. All board members, including youth members, are expected to make a personally-significant financial contribution to the board. For youth members, the annual contribution is usually between $50 and $100.

Why does SSP want teenagers to serve on its board? Since the mission of SSP is to provide life-changing service experiences for young people, it is very important that young people are actually able to shape the future of the organization. You have a unique perspective on what SSP does that only you can provide!

Getting elected to the Board has become a competitive process, so we suggest that you take care in preparing your answers to the essay questions. After completing and submitting the application, we will ask your pastor or youth leader for their opinion and recommendation.

All applications are due on August 25, 2015.

If you have any questions about any of this, please give Rick Eaton, SSP's Executive Director, a call at 916-488-6441.
